Following is what we did for all 5 subjects in the classroom

Quran reading with Stoppers (and Reading Rules) [Sr Roza/br Mashhood]

We worked on reading the first 10 verses of surah Baqarah (assigned as homework) using the stoppers.  Students did good work, we didn't apply reading rules yet

Vocabulary page / Arabic reading using Madinah book [br Adam/br Mashhood]

Students were tortured using first box of vocabulary words (assigned as homework).  Students responded to translating Arabic words and then translating to Arabic words when asked in English

Reading Rules fast track practice [Sr Kadra/br Mashhood]

Reading Rules sheet - We reviewed Tanween, confirmed homework was done correctly, did some cross questioning and moved on to next set of rules

• using the homework, what did we learn about long vowels last week? Please remember long vowels have a big impact - there are four/five more reading rules attached with them hence this review is needed
1. Rule 1: when are long vowels treated as letters (consonants) and when as long vowels (Alif maddah, wow maddah and ya maddah)? Maddah sounds are elongated by two counts
• what goes on the letter before the long vowel letter [park this for now - until next week] 
2. Rule 2: how about if long vowel letters have a short vowel on them - long vowel must be treated as a letter regardless of its location in the word
3. Rule 3: how about if long vowel letters have sukoon or hamza on them [park this for now - until next week]
4. Rule 4: how about if long vowel letters come next to each other [park this for now - until next week] 
5. Rule 5: difficult words involving long vowel letters [park this for now - until next week]  
• Long Vowels in symbol form (Tashkeel/Tashkeelaat) 
• Long vowels written in short form/symbol (tashkeel) form.  Name of long vowel remains same, it just changes visibly - we practiced page 44 from the book and students had 30 minutes of discussions and Q/A with teacher to ensure it is read correctly
• what if long vowels show up in symbol forms above a long vowel letter? -  long vowel must be treated as a letter and should be read with elongated sound

Quran Lessons [Sr Rand]

first handout was given in the class (since book is not ready yet).  Students did their first Quran lesson (verses 4:36 onwards) with Sr Rand, after introductions.  Students will get a homework on this to fill the lower half of this page

 

Grammar and Quran Translation [br Mashhood]

first handout was given in the class (since book is not ready yet).  Students learnt about 3 categories of an Arabic word and that only these 3 categories exist, there is not a 4th category whatsoever.  Students read the lines in the class using the handout

For Homework, be sure to label you homework A3HW2, name it and date it before you hand it in 

• Q1: From Green Book, working towards 10 reading rules,  please answer following questions
1. Can long vowels be written in tashkeel form? Can long harakaat be written in tashkeel form?
2. What are their names of these long harakaat in tashkeel form? and how are they written?
3. What do we do if long harakah letter has a hamza or sukoon on it 
4. How many harakaat exist in arabic language and how many you have learnt? 
5. Can all harakaat be written in Tashkeel form? 
6. What is the role of a long harakah letter if it has a short harakah on it, does the location of long harakah letter matter for this question asked earlier in this sentence?
7. Is it true that long harakah letter act as a long harakah if it is in the middle or end of the word, as long as it doesn't have a short harakah on it 
• Q2: Write Surah Al Quraysh, one word on each line.  next to each word, on same line, Mention all reading rules being applied on that word
• Write Neatly on the line.  For Arabic letters orientation on the line, please watch this video
• Using Vocabulary List, memorize all pointing nouns, all pronouns and their meaning. 
• Be sure to memorize both ways (Arabic to English, English to Arabic).  We will practice making short sentences in the class 
• Practice reading first 15 verses of surah Baqarah using 5 stoppers.  How many segments did you make for each ayah?
• Look below this line for guidance on writing forms of letter, just in case the above video was not enough

A2HW2: long vowels again and their four rules

Homework 

• Green Book: Write page 27 rewrite the Arabic words on a lined piece of paper neatly
  pronounce the words loudly while you write it.
• Reading Rules: Write answers to following questions
1. How many long vowels in the Arabic language?
2. How many roles the Arabic vowels play that we learned so far? Name them?
3. Name the three things make the vowels to be pronounced  as a long vowels?
4. What makes a vowel to be pronounced a letter? 
5. How many Harakah is a long vowel?
• Vocabulary page: Memorize all words from the "pronouns section" with their English meaning.  You will be tested in the class
• Next week, reading words from a handout will also be part of the class inshaaAllah

• reviewed Tanween, asked good questions, reviewed some vocabulary
• Sr Rand reviewed long vowels again (from april 19th class).  Please remember long vowels have a big impact - there are four more reading rules attached with them hence this review is needed and thus is current status

If you need help with letters orientation on the line, please use this video 
Only use lined pages for your home work since many of you need help writing on the line. Watch this video and remember that generally:  

• all Arabic letters with tummy must use space below the line in the full form (end form). letters such as ( ن ل ق ض ص س ش ج ح خ ع غ ي )
• all flat stretched letters must stay above the line - in all forms. letters such as (ب ت ث ف )
• Alif, daal and zhaal (  ا د  ) always remain above the line in all forms 
• wow ( و ) always remain half above the line and half below in all forms
• all tall letters ( ك ط ظ ا ل ) always remain above the line and consume as much of the vertical space between two lines on a lined paper
• Raa and zaa ( ر ز ) may remain below the line in the full form (end form)
• Hamza ( ء ) remains/sticks on alif or on a cup holder, seldom does it show up by itself (and usually that happens when it is at the end of a word) 
• shape shifting letter ha ( ه ) has 3 or 4 middle forms

• attendance counts 20%
• Final exams counts 40%

1. Resources: Everyone knows now where to find syllabus, reading rules list pages and vocabulary page.  also students know where is the homework site and how to use the whatsApp group's header where lots of info is hidden as well.  We also learnt how to use the "web version" of homework site. 
2. Everyone should have their green book now :)  so next week book fee collection will be completed.  students know how to pay using cash, zella, venmo, or cashApp
3. We also started working on vocabulary page so students can memorize some words
