A3HW0x: the 1st grammar lesson


For the Class Date: 12/15/2019, Following homework is due on 1/05/2020


We reviewed many reading rules and tomorrow (Sunday Dec 22nd) is the last day of review.  We will start on reading surah Baqarah and asking about all rules

We also started on 1st grammar lesson (unit 1).  Please review it and we will continue on next lesson.  Dec 22nd class will be heavier than usual due to holiday season.  we will review this lesson few times

Below I have attached two resources which I requested you to review.  In whole month of December, Starting Sunday December 1st at 9 am (as we agreed), your teachers have spent 1 hour with you on reviewing these 10 rules to ensure you are picking the terminology.

After you review these rules at home, We expect you to ask questions at each session inshaaAllah 

  • List of 10 reading rules to learn from Arabic 2 and use in Arabic 3 onwards.  These are strictly reading rule and our expectation is any sort of reciting from you at this point
  • PDF of the Green "Help yourself in reading Quran" book
  • Video list for these rules so students may review at home

A3HW0: bookmark the sections of your book

You have been working on review of reading rules.  In class, we will briefly discuss if you have any questions about rules covered so far in the class

Please visit all 6 section of your book and book mark them using any sort of color bookmarks.  In the class we will discuss if you were able to find each of the following sections in the book following two questions
  • Arabic Grammar: Lessons from the book in order to understand word structure and sentence composition
  • Quran reading: read using the rules from Arabic 2 and prepare the verses

A3HW11: Unit 9 (Subjects and Objects - Cases of Nouns)

We started on Unit 9 (Subjects and Objects - Cases of Nouns). We learnt the three cases of Nouns and the role of Noun as a Subject and Object in a sentence.

    June 30th 2019 - Exam and Quiz Information for Arabic 2, 3 and 4

    For the Class Dates June 16th and 23rd, we reviewed following for the examon 6/30/2019


    Arabic 2
    1. We reviewed all Suraat from page 64 till 71
    2. Students will be tested on 3 of these suraat.  Reading each of the words individually and telling the reading rules
    3. Students also review vocabulary page
    4. Students should prepare exercise pages in Green Book - after page 25
    5. Students were given a demo of the exam.  2 mistakes are allowed.  3rd time, students should say the words correctly
    6. on June 30th: 8 am - Younis, 9 am -  Habob, 10 am - Qarad, Mariya is most probably for 9 am too
    7. Safiyah and Jahirul already tested before travelling.  Megan will take it another day.

    Arabic 3 NEW AND FOCUSED
    1. FOCUSED STUDENTS: didn't show up so no quiz for you.  Sr Nura will join the next level and work with them
    2. We reviewed all units (1 to 6 and some of the Unit 9)
    3. Students will be tested on Quran lessons
    4. Students will be tested on grammar concepts and it is full exam
    5. No Exam about Arabic reading (al Madinah book) and Quran understanding yet but we will have those in September.
    6. A formal Quran understanding exam will take place in September or November 2019
    7. We will review first 10 to 15 verses and full meaning on June 30th after the exams are finished
    8. We will work on new Quran verses and exam review (from June 30th) on Sunday July 7th and 14th inshaa-Allah

    Arabic 3 ADVANCED
    1. We reviewed many VSO concepts for verses 20 to 33 with Sr Hindi and Sr Naeema
    2. We worked on new verses 31 to 34.  Write verse 35 and 36 for next week
    3. Students will be tested on grammar concepts Esp. VSO.  Quran verses will be used for grammar, but not for translation or summary or understanding
    4. A formal Quran understanding exam will take place in September or November 2019
    5. Students should review Unit 9 and should know Unit 1 to 6 as usual

    Arabic 4 (NEW and ADVANCED)
    1. We reviewed past verses and added new verses. detail will be listed here soon
    2. on June 30th, Students quiz is about Grammar concepts (Adjectives, VSO verb/subject/object, Mudaaf).  Seniors did some extra work on plurals as well.  Quran verses will be used and students will need to pick out the grammar compositions.
    3. No Quran understanding and phrases writing exam will take place for now.  No Arabic reading, Dua understanding, Quran reading or Hadith composition will take place for now.
    4. A formal Quran understanding exam will take place in September or Novebmer 2019
    5. Students will get started on new grammar concepts on July 7th and 14th - till will continue till end of the year.  We will use the duaa section and Islamic stories section of the book


    Summer 2019 - Arabic 1 updates

    For the Class Date: June & July 2019, Following homework is due on 7/7/2019

    We have started on reading practice using Arabic 1 white book. 

    June 16th - We completed pages 11 to 22 with Sr Rand for long vowel words.  The Rule of Tanween was introduced

    June 23rd - Tanween was reviewed with more details while Words from page 22 to 26 were worked on

    Exam and Important dates to remember


    Assalam-u-Alaikum Dear students ..  


    Insha-Allah please keep following dates in mind
    • This Sunday  May 26th is last Ramadan class
    • We return on Sunday June 16th at usual schedule (9 am) for Summer classes
    • Exams and Quizzes are on Sunday June 30th
    • Summer classes stop Mid July
    • and we return for next year in September inshaa-Allah!

      2. You do not need to Spell each word. Just mention all of the reading rules in that word

      Dawrah 1 - Means this is word to word writing in the notebook and going through the categories and translation for the new aayah.

      Dawrah 2 - Means making the phrases of the ayah and translating them for tafheem (what do we learn from segments of aayah).

      Dawrah 3 - Means going through the Grammar of each word of ayah (oral).

      Dawrah 4 - Means can only look at Arabic text from Quran and translate.
      Dawrah 5 -  This is the last dawrah, your class is NOT working on this yet.  This dawrah means, you listen and translate to English.  You CANNOT look at the ayaat.

      We worked on translating verse 26 of Surah Baqarah. Next week Insha Allah we will translate 27 and 28. 


      We will continue on the sentences we have been working on.
