A2HW8: More practice on The Idgham rule (page 55)/ Suratu Alkawthar and Suratu Alkafiroon

Work we did in the class  

  • We practiced the rules of Madd and the Muqati'aat  with and without Madd.
  • We also practiced  the rule of Idgham using page 55. How this rule works in case of ال with sun and moon letters.  Sun letters showing right after ال will have a shaddah on them hence this rule of page 55 must be used. Examples are اَلْرَّحمان or اَلْشَّْمس
  •  From Suratu Al masadd we practiced applying the rules to each  word
  • Between 11 am and 1130, We provided some info about Arabic 2 exam.

Also, Pronounce the words loudly while you write it.
  • Vocabulary page: Memorize as much as possible from the right side column comma last sunday, we did not work on any vocabulary words
  •  White Book: keep this handout always with you.  We will eventually use it either for the last weeks of classes or during the summer break

A2HW6: two rules learnt: Short forms of long vowels and hamztul wasl / Suratu Almasad

  • We reviewed long vowels and their 4 roles, also reviewed wow leen and yaa leen.
  • From Suratu Alfalaqu we practiced how to find the reading rules from each word.
  •  We learnt the Short form of long vowels, look at the picture below
  • Br mashhood introduced hamzatul was as well

first handout (Unit 1) was given in the class so we did a quick practice on it using Adam's help and we started on 2nd grammar concept (Unit 2 - pronouns).  

We briefly discussed the complexity of this grammar concept since this is the hardest grammar lesson!

We worked on reading the verses 11-20 of surah Baqarah (assigned as homework) using the stoppers.  Students did good work, we applied some reading rules too but wish could do more.  next time inshaaAllah
 
Homework is again to prepare verses 1 - 20 this week complete with all the reading rules you have learnt so far.  We will review them together.  sadly we didn't learn any of the 4 new reading rules i was hoping to so just identify the past 6 reading rules you have already covered

Subject 2: Vocabulary page / Arabic reading using Madinah book [sr Rand/br Mashhood]
Students were tortured using first box of vocabulary words (assigned as homework).  Students responded to translating Arabic words and then translating to Arabic words when asked in English.  below is a list of such sentences which we tried making in the class briefly

Reading Rules sheet - We reviewed few ayaat from surah baqarah and few from surah Quraysh and applied reading rules as well ashaaAllah.  We covered couple more rules about maddah and muqati'aat.  I forgot to take a picture of the board though
 
Homework is  to continue working on verses above, using all of the rules you know.  Nothing in writing but just practice yourself using this sample and mentioning all reading rules known to you by now from the list of 10 distributed beginning of the class

first handout was given in the class couple of weeks ago (since book is not ready yet). we didn't cover any new lesson and just worked on Unit 1 looking at multiple verses to practice this first grammar rule.  

We will quickly do same again next week before moving to next grammar lesson (using pronouns).  This is the hardest grammar lesson!

Homework is to remember the pronouns from your vocab sheet, this is one of the way these two classes will start merging :)

  • We reviewed long vowels and their 4 roles, wow leen and yaa leen,  look at the pictures of the board at the bottom of the post.  it was ensured that students find the basic info about short vowels (harakaat) on page 8 to 14 in gren book while long vowels (harakaat) are covered on page 14-21 
  • Word tashkeel and tashkeelaat was also introduced. Some students had not heard of it 
  • From suratu Annas we practiced how to find the reading  rules from each word.
